'Days of Our Lives' News: Cast Members Speak on Nick and Gabi 'Near Rape' Storyline

Days of Our Lives recently launched an attempted rape and murder storyline that has the actors speaking out, Soap Opera Network reported Wednesday.

Early in the week, viewers witnessed Nick attempt to rape his ex, Gabi. In self defense, she hit him over the head with a rock and seemingly killed him. Kate and Sami came to the young woman's aid and Nick roused. The trio then threw a struggling Nick back in the water but the portrayers of Nick and Gabi insisted that the storyline was more black and white than it seemed.

Blake Berris, Nick, did not see his character as a rapist.

"You can't villainize your character. You have to figure it out through their eyes and how they rationalize it, and I don't think he sees it as he's raping Gabi," he said.

Camila Banus, Gabi, agreed with her co-star.

 "He wants to help remind her of the wonderful times they've had and how sensual and sexual their relationship is," she said. "And Gabi just is not with it at the moment. She's upset. And when a woman or anyone is upset, they want to be left alone."

Alison Sweeney, who has played vixen Sami since 1993, was excited to be thrown into another controversial storyline. The veteran actress was happy that Kate and Sami were once again on the same side.

"t was such a shock to see that, after Sami and Kate's longstanding feud and being at odds. Lauren Koslow and I always talked about how, while we love fighting together and we love that we've had this dynamic for such a long history, we always sort of talked about how similar Sami and Kate were, so if we were ever put together, what would that be like?" Sweeney said.
