Heidi Montag used to be thought of as Lauren Conrad's best friend on The Hills, but after undergoing ten plastic surgeries on Nov. 20, 2009, her notoriety became based on her outrageous new look. Years later, Montag regrets the surgeries, even opting to have her breast implants reduced, and during a recent episode of The View, the former reality star spoke about why she went under the knife in the first place.

"I really just went back in to get my nose reset and get a little bit larger of implants because I had been elbowed by a backup dancer in a music video that I was doing and then I went in and was talking to my doctor and he just kind of diagnosed me and was like, 'You should get a chin reduction, and an eyebrow lift,'" Montag revealed to the hosts of The View. "I didn't know what an eyebrow lift and a chin reduction was! So once he kind of told me everything that was wrong with me I felt really insecure, and he gave me a really great deal on it all. He didn't tell me how extensive it was going to be, how severe, how painful, so I had no idea."

In Jan. 2010, just two months after her surgeries, Montag spoke with PEOPLE Magazine, claiming that she needed to amp up her look because of the competitive music industry that she was trying to break into.

"Think about the industry I'm trying to go into," she said at the time. "My ultimate dream is to be a pop star. I'm competing against the Britney Spearses of the world-and when she was in her prime, it was her sex appeal that sold. Obviously, looks matter; it's a superficial industry."

Now, Montag and her husband, Spencer Pratt are taking a more practical approach to life.

"That's the goal now, is getting a real career. That's why I needed to get my Political Science degree so people would at least take me a little serious," Pratt told the women.

"I think we just needed to reevaluate and reground our lives and our values, and be like what is the future we want for ourselves and I think our real values are our families and our relationships and each other and I think we just needed to step back and realize that," added Heidi.
