Zac Efron took a bad fall at the end of last year, and as a result, he experienced some unexpected weight loss.

"I actually broke my jaw," Efron told Jimmy Kimmel of his injury during a Jan. 30 appearance on Kimmel's late night talk show. "I was running through my house and I slipped and fell on my face."

"Let me start over, because the story starts kind of cool," Efron continued. "I have a fountain in my house. That's kind of dope, right? So I was running through and slipped on water and hit my chin on the fountain in my house. It's not a big fountain, but it's a fountain in my house."

After being driven to the hospital by his younger brother, Dylan, Efron had his "jaw wired shut" for a month and a half.

"It was pretty gnarly," Efron said. "I was drinking foods solidly for six weeks-only liquid foods. It sucked...I lost, like, 10-12 pounds."

In April of 2012, after adding a reported 18 pounds of muscle for his role in The Lucky One, Efron spoke out about challenging himself when it came to fitness.

"By the end of the movie I didn't recognize myself. You hear about guys like Christian Bale who dive into it and are really able to transform. I've always wondered if I had the willpower to actually do it. And I'll always have pride around the sense that I can," Efron revealed at the time. "I could pick up almost anything. If you put it in front of me, I could always find a way to tackle it. [While training for The Lucky One] I’d get this strange sense of power as those weights increased. I was never a natural at anything, but I could always outwork everybody."

Efron also challenged himself in early 2013, when he secretly entered rehab to address his addiction to alcohol.

"He's had to go from being a party boy to being completely sober," an Efron pal told Us Weekly after news broke in Sept. 2013 of his rehab stay. "It's going to take time, but he's handling it well."

On Jan. 21, while promoting his new movie That Awkward Moment, Efron spoke about completion of rehab. "I'm in the best place I've ever been. I've never been this happy before," he said. "Things are good."
