Leah Calvert and Corey Simms' four-year-old daughter Ali Simms was diagnosed with a rare and incurable form of muscular dystrophy in June 2013, but despite the heartbreaking diagnosis, Ali appears to be doing quite well physically.

"Ali is running," the Teen Mom 2 star revealed to In Touch Weekly on Feb. 26. "She has so much determination. We're in awe of how she handles adversity."

During the June doctor's visit, Calvert and Simms were informed that Ali would need a wheelchair once she started school, and that she would be in a wheelchair for the rest of her life, once her muscles could no longer hold her weight.

While Ali will eventually need to have the support of her wheelchair, she's staying mobile for the time being, and it has come as a blessing to Calvert, who feared the worst upon hearing the diagnosis.

Simms, on the other hand, has remained positive, and at times, seemed to be a bit unrealistic. For him, Ali being in a wheelchair isn't something he has accepted.

Either way, both parents are enjoying seeing their daughter being active and getting to play along with her two sisters, her twin Aleeah, and younger sister Adalynn, 1.

"She's doing so much better than expected. We don't know what the future holds, but this is proof that we should never give up hope," Calvert explained.

Following Ali's diagnosis, Calvert has gotten tons of support from her fans, and one particular woman, gave her insight about what she can expect for Ali's future.

"One girl who reached out to me also suffers from muscular dystrophy," Calvert said. "It made my hope for Ali so much more realistic."
