Nikki Reed and Paul McDonald have split after just two years of marriage.

On Saturday, Reed's rep confirmed the news and released a statement.

"After much consideration, Nikki Reed and Paul McDonald are ending their marriage. They have been living separately for the past six months due to work obligations," a rep for Reed told Us Weekly on March 29.

Reed and McDonald met in March 2011 on the red carpet at the premiere of Little Red Riding Hood. At the time, McDonald was a contestant on season 10 of American Idol. One month into their relationship, McDonald moved into Reed's Los Angeles home, and three months later, Reed confirmed their engagement. On Oct. 16, 2011, they were married in Malibu, Calif.

In the last year, Reed has been busy filming a number of films including In Your Eyes, Intramural and Murder Of A Cat, all of which will premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 19, 2014.

"[Reed and McDonald] will continue to share their love of music, and are still working on their debut album, I'm Not Falling, releasing in 2014," the statement continued. "They remain best friends and look forward to their continued journey together."

Reed and McDonald's first song together, "Now That I've Found You", debuted on Ryan Seacrest's radio show on November 15, 2011. One year later, on Oct. 29, 2012, the couple released their first EP, The Best Part.

On March 27, during an appearance at LeSport Sac's 40th anniversary event, Reed spoke of McDonald, telling the magazine, "We love just hanging out. He's my best friend in the world and I love him so much."

When asked about their future family plans, Reed said, "Not currently."
