Joan Lunden Breast Cancer: TV Host Undergoes Second Chemo Treatment

Joan Lunden has undergone her second chemo treatment.

After learning she was suffering from Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC), a rare and aggressive form of the disease, Lunden immediately went into action, focusing on her family and her road to recovery.

"[Lunden] was expected to start losing her hair in the coming week," a close family friend told PEOPLE Magazine on Juy 2. "So she took matters into her own hands and shaved her head. She wanted to do it on her own terms, and she looks stunning."

On June 24, Lunden, 63, appeared on Good Morning America, where she acted as anchor for 17 years, and during her sit-down with Robin Roberts, she revealed she had breast cancer. Despite her initial shock, Lunden said she was optimistic about her prognosis, and urged other women to receive annual checkups. However, it wasn't during her routine visit that doctors discovered the cancer. According to Lunden, her cancer wasn't found until she underwent an ultrasound.

Following her appearance, Lunden took to her blog, where she explained to fans that she had gone public with her cancer battle in an effort to "try and inspire others to protect their health."

Throughout her cancer battle, Lunden has had her husband, Jeff Konigsberg, and her seven children (three with Konigsberg and four with former husband, Michael Krauss) at her side.

"Right away, she went into lioness mode protecting her family," the source said of Lunden's reaction to her cancer diagnosis. "She didn't want to upset the kids before summer camp."
