At long last, Marvel's Doctor Strange is heading to cinemas on November 14, 2016. With the finalization of Benedict Cumberbatch's role to play as Doctor Stephen Vincent Strange, rumors and speculations have now subsided as the production moves forward.

This is actually not the first time that the supreme doctor is adapted to the screen. Actor and director Philip DeGuere Jr had attempted to adapt the comic hero to a TV series in the late 70's but it ended up being a TV motion picture titled simply as Doctor Strange in 1978. It was rumored that the property had ended up in the hands of Charles Band and Full Moon Features. This was also during the days of Albert Pyun's Captain America and the Dolph Lundgren version of The Punisher. Hopes weren't as high as it is right now, in other words.

Full Moon productions had re-arranged the property left with them and in 1992, they released a direct-to-video effort with Doctor Mordrid. Recently, the video was re-released for the first time in Blu-Ray.

The film was loosely based on the supreme sorcerer, Doctor Strange and it stars Jeffrey Combs. He is best known for his role in Peter Jackson's horror/comedy The Frighteners. The film follows the adventures of an otherworldly scholar named Dr. Anton Mordrid, a man who's tasked with preventing the villainous Kabal (Brian Thompson) from taking over the mortal realm.

Doctor Mordrid was the closest film fans will get to have for a proper Doctor Strange because comic book flicks were not huge commodities at the time. While waiting for Scott Derrickson's adaptation of the comic book hero, Doctor Mordrid is a B-movie that is thoroughly entertaining and not quite bad to give it a shot.

Doctor Strange will hit theaters on November 14, 2016.
