20th Century Fox' s Spy, a comedy action thriller about the misadventures of a female version of James Bond, will open in theaters on May 22. Directed, written and produced by Paul Feig, Spy stars Melissa McCarthy in the role of secret agent Susan Cooper.

McCarthy's Susan Cooper is introduced in the film as an unassuming CIA analyst with a desk job that often makes her the unsung hero behind the Agency's most dangerous missions. However, when her partner falls off the grid, and another top agent is compromised, she decides to volunteer to go deep undercover in order to infiltrate the world of a deadly arms dealer, and prevent a global disaster. On her first ever field assignment, Agent Cooper unfortunately gets herself into one misadventure after another.

Joining McCarthy in the comedy spy flick is an ensemble cast that includes Jude Law, Jason Statham, Rose Byrne, Miranda HartBobby Cannavale, Nia LongMorena Baccarin, Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson, Nargis Fakhiri, Peter Serafinowicz, Bjorn Gustafsson, Verka Serduchka, Allison Janney, Zach Woods, Jessica Chaffin, Alicia Vela-Bailey, among others. Aside from Feig through his Feig Co Entertainment, the movie was also co-produced by Chernin Entertainment.

According to The WrapSpy has been described by an individual familiar with the project as a two-hander in the vein of The Heat that lends itself to a possible franchise. The Heat, a buddy cop comedy, also marked the second time that Feig and McCarthy collaborated on a project. The first time was in the Oscar-nominated 2011 hit Bridesmaids. With Spy, fans can expect to see a more realistic comedy that's partially inspired by Martin Campbell's James Bond reboot Casino Royale rather than an outright spoof like Johnny English or Spy Hard says Cinema Blend.

Feig, 52, who used to be seen on TV as the science teacher Mr. Eugene Pool in Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, has been nominated for two Emmy Awards for writing on Freaks and Geeks and three for directing on The Office. He is currently also co- producing the upcoming 3D computer-animated The Peanuts Movie with Blue Sky Studios.
