Paramount Pictures' Mission: Impossible 5 is originally set for release on December 25 but was pushed forward to an earlier July 31 date at the theaters. But the production recently shut down for a week or so in London because the film's ending was deemed unsatisfactory, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The fifth installment in the franchise is being directed by Christopher McQuarrie from a screenplay written by Drew Pearce and Will Staples. Tom Cruise who is co-producing the project, returns as star, reprising his role of IMF agent and main movie protagonist Ethan Hunt. According to The Hollywood Reporter account, McQuarrie was given extra time by Paramount to work out a new and improved finale with a writer friend whose identity remains a mystery and who will neither be paid nor credited. Quoting an unnamed source, the entertainment site wrote: "Chris, Tom and a third person wanted to take a minute to get from what they thought was a good place to a more perfect place."

In any event, joining Cruise in the Mission: Impossible 5 cast are Jeremy Renner as William Brandt, Simon Pegg as Benji Dunn, Ving Rhames as Luther Stickell, Paula Patton as Jane Carter, along with Rebecca Ferguson, Sean Harris, Alec Baldwin, Zhang Jingchu, Simon McBurney, Leo Atkins, Stella Stocker, Asim Ahmad, Mingus Johnston, Ulli Ackerman, Rupert Wickham, Robert Maaser, and Ait ben Azzouz Brahim in still undisclosed roles. While her character in the film has not yet been revealed, Rebecca Ferguson will reportedly be playing the female lead and Cruise's romantic interest in Mission: Impossible 5. However, it's already known that Simon McBurney will play the role of her boss in the film. On the other hand, Alec Baldwin is rumored to play the head of CIA in the fifth installment in the long-running franchise. Sean Harris will reportedly play the movie's big bad.

Filming for Mission: Impossible 5 began in Vienna, Austria, in August. From there, the shooting location was moved to Morocco. On September 28, the venue was shifted to London, including within the vicinity of the House of Parliament, where Cruise and Ferguson were spotted on the set by reporters and paparazzi. On December 2, Cruise was almost hit by a double decker bus while filming a scene at a London street. Most recently, the cast and crew were reportedly spotted filming at the Cayman Islands. On February 13, 2015, Paramount and IMAX Corporation announced that the film will be digitally re-mastered into the IMAX format and also release in IMAX theaters worldwide on the scheduled July 31 screening date.
