Sarah Michelle Gellar, 37, still best remembered by the geek community as Buffy the Vampire Slayer will soon be part of another geek favorite TV fare - Disney XD's Star Wars Rebels. The spinoff series, as gathered by the Daily Dead, has already reached an audience of over 49 million 'Total Viewers,' 5.6 million 'Boys 6-11' and 10.9 million 'Kids 6-11.'

According to Flickering Myth, Gellar has signed on for an as-yet-unrevealed role for the second season of the 3D CGI animated TV series produced by Lucasfilm and Lucasfilm Animation for the Disney channel.

The Star Wars Rebels series follows the adventures of a motley group of rebels, all of whom have been affected in one way or another by the Galactic Empire, that band together aboard a freighter starship called the 'Ghost.' Their story takes place five years before the events seen in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope and fourteen years after the fall of the Galactic Republic and the Jedi Council shown in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.

Gellar will be joining a cast of voice actors that includes her husband Freddie Prinze Jr. who stars as Kannan Jarus, Taylor Gray as Ezra Bridger, Vanessa Marshall as Hera Syndulla, Tiya Sircar as Sabine Wren, Steven Blum as Garazeb "Zeb" Orrelios/Alton kastle, Dee Bradley Baker as Old Jho, David Oyelowo as Agent Kallus, David Shaughnessy as Cumberlayne Aresko/ Myles Grint, among others. Recurring guest stars include those who were seen in the live-action films reprising their roles in the CGI animated TV series, including Anthony Daniels as C-3PO, James Earl Jones as Darth Vader, Frank Oz as Yoda, James Arnold Taylor as Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian. Ashley Eckstein voices for the Jedi Ahsoka Tano who was revealed to be the Fulcrum in the season 1 finale. His storyline will be continued when season 2 returns on air.

In announcing Gellar's addition to the cast, Star Wars Rebels executive producer/supervising director Dave Filoni in a press statement said: "We're thrilled to have Sarah Michelle Gellar on board for season two. She is a true Star Wars Rebels fan and her passion undoubtedly comes through in the voice recording sessions."
