HBO has released a new streaming service that's a standalone and requires no cable or satellite subscription.

HBO released this week their own live streaming service, introducing their 'HBO Now' that would stream tons of movies from Warner Bros, Unviersal. Summit, Foc etc over the internet, featuring more than 2000 films. The service would also stream HBO's past and finished shows such as 'The Wire' and 'Sex and the City' along with their ongoing and upcoming seasons like 'the Game of Thrones'.

The target market for this streaming service is the US population. The service would cost only $15 per month. The service will be launched in partnership with Apple for a 3-month exclusive duration. During this time, customers can sign up for the service only through Apple TV device or HBO Now app available on iPhone and IPad. HBO CEO Richard Plepler was proud to introduce their partner.

HBO's announcement comes at a time when the Game of Thrones is just around the corner. The event in San Francisco even showcased an exclusive trailer of the much awaited show. The streaming service is set to be available starting April on all Apple devices. HBO plans to extend the service through other distributors after the exclusivity duration expires. As of now, the service is available only in US

HBO Now is a service that will allow non-cable users to watch HBO's classics. The fee, compared to all the things available to watch seems nominal and a subscription before end of April means a free first month. The prospects may actually be good for HBO as Netflix saw share drops immediately after the declaration while HBO's Time Warner saw a slight rise in shares.
