Fox on Wednesday announced the renewal of Sleepy Hollow for an 18-episode third season, with Clifton Campbell taking over Mark Goffman's place as showrunner. The network also revealed that series will be moving production from Wilmington, North Carolina, where it did the taping for Seasons 1 and 2, to Atlanta, Georgia.

Clifton, best known for creating A&E's The Glades, had also executive produced for White Collar, Profiler and SeaQuest 2032. On his credentials to be Sleepy Hollow's new showrunner, Fox president David Madden in a statement tells the press, "I had the pleasure of working with Clifton on both The Glades and White Collar. He is an excellent producer, and we can't wait to see what this team has in store for Season 3."

Madden added: "Sleepy Hollow is truly inventive television. The talented producers - led by Alex, Bob, Len and Heather - along with the brilliant cast, anchored by Nicole and Tom, have created a fantastic world that brings 'history' to life with compelling and vibrant storytelling."

On what the network hopes that the new showrunner can do once Sleepy Hollow returns to air, Fox TV Group chairman Dana Walden back in January said: "We want to get back to something that feels a little bit more episodic in nature, it has become overly serialized. We are trying to return the fun to it a little bit." Sleepy Hollow, co-created by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Phillip Iscove and Len Wiseman for Fox, saw last season's ratings drop 40 percent against Season 1's figures.

Sleepy Hollow stars Tom Mison as Ichabod Crane and Nicole Berhari as Lt. Grace Abigail 'Abbie' Mills along with Orlando Jones as Captain Frank Irving and Lyndie Greenwood as Jennifer 'Jenny' Mills are expected to return for Season 3. The two other cast regulars, Katia Winter as Katrina Crane and John Noble as Henry Parish/Jeremy Crane, however were seen "killed off" in last season's climactic finale.
