Without further delay or day dreaming, you and your kids can now design your own action figure toys, that too, not simple sketches but 3d. What's more is that you can print them out with a 3D printer.

AutoDesk has designed a beautiful app called Tinkerplay that will allow users to create their own 3D action figures. The app has a lot of in built templates and even body parts to build different kinds of characters. The interface is simple, interactive and colorful and not too complicated. Kids can learn it and create their own unique characters.

The designs begin from plain humanoids to tails, glasses, guns and cannons. The possibilities of combining the various parts are huge. Autodesk does not think this would become an alternate to buying the action figures. Instead, it hopes the app would push kids and interest them in getting into creative hobbies.

To create your character, you have to drag the parts you want onto the figurine until it comes to place. As soon as the figure is ready, you can save it as an STL or even a .thing file. This file can then be turned into a 3D printed figure.

The app is available on Google Play Store, free of charge. It is supportive of Android, Windows Phone, the iOS series and Windows 8.1. However, for it to really work, you would need a 3d printer. Though 3D printers are not so readily available and accessible, there are several online services that take orders. Websites like Shapeways, take 3D print orders and will deliver you your 3D figure.

Autodesk are the original developers of AutoCAD and Spark 3D printing platform.
