Liza Minnelli is in 'Good Spirits' in Rehab; Eager to Get Back to Work

Liza Minnelli, daughter of the acclaimed singer and actress Judy Garland who struggled with substance abuse and died of barbiturate overdose in 1969 is in 'good spirits' after being admitted to an unnamed rehab. The 69 year old singer and actress has been confirmed as being treated for Alcohol Abuse.

Furthermore, her publicist Scott Gorenstein has cleared the air saying that the decision to seek treatment was not triggered by any specific incident. He added that Minnelli has been "valiantly battling" substance abuse for many years and that she has sought help regularly form time to time. The Sidney Morning Herald reportedly said that the unnamed location the actress has been admitted to is in Malibu, Los Angeles County.

Minnelli who won the Best Actress Academy Award for her performance in "Cabaret" in 1973 is regarded as a cultural and gay icon. Moreover, she has also been bestowed with three Tony Awards for her Broadway performances besides having been named as a Grammy Living Legend in 1990. She has been regularly performing in recent years and has made several guest appearances in Arrested Development. ANI News reports that the Minnelli passed the offer to star in "Celebrity Rehab", a reality show in 2010. She was offered about half a million to do the show.

Furthermore, Minnelli who has been reportedly addicted to Valium, Cocaine and Sleeping Pills on various occasions has been attending Alcoholics Anonymous for "a long, long time, every single day." Besides, the Oscar winning actress had openly spoken about her alcoholism in the past.

Having owned up to her substance abuse and seeking treatment for the same is a sure sign of courage by the actress. It is sincerely hoped that she is up and about in the hortest possible time.
