Extending a major challenge to both cable TV and streaming websites such as Netflix is the Japanese giant Sony which has launched television services for PlayStations. As reported by The Hindustan Times the service would be launched in two phases, the first restricting privileges to owners of PlayStation 3 and 4 consoles which would later be extended to owners of Apple iPads in its second phase.

Furthermore, it has also been reported that this cloud based service would be launched initially in New York, Chicago and Philadelphia which has proposed to offer live feed from major broadcast networks. The move has been termed as a major move to challenge the cable TV model. Besides, the services would cost around $49.99 to $69.99 and there would be no call for long term contracts. Furthermore, channels such as CBS, NBC, Discovery, Animal Planet, National Geographic and Cartoon Network would be offered to the customers.

Moreover, the News Hub did a comparative study of cable TV and PlayStation VUE and concluded that owing to its cloud storage and the capacity to record instances of a user's favorite programs as an extension to the service provided by TiVo, PlayStation VUE is all set to win positive feedbacks and recommendations from its users.

The cable TV has been seen to take a lot of hits in the recent past with the launch of Sling TV from Dish Network which offers live sports through ESPN channels and news using CNN and Bloomberg. Furthermore, Apple is also slated to release a service to feature live feeds. It seems that the increase in the number of these services is going to cause serious competition in the cable TV market. Moreover, maybe it's time that even Netflix becomes a news of the past.
