NBC has not yet released a "Chicago Fire" Season 5 renewal order despite its decision to renew a handful of its other shows. According to Carter Matt, the network has already issued renewal orders for its hit freshman series, "This is Us" as well as for "The Good Place" and "Superstore."

This made a lot of fans wonder whether "Chicago Fire" Season 5 renewal is uncertain or if they should be taking the time to bid the show farewell. The publication notes, however, that NBC's decision to hold off on the renewal announcement may be due to the recent premiere of its new show, "Chicago Justice."

The network may be simply looking at the show's performance to determine whether it could renew all four series, including "Chicago Fire" Season 5 at the same time. As TV Series Finale notes, the show has received an average of 1.61 rating in the demo and 7.311 million viewers this season.

This means that the show continues to generate almost the same amount of viewership as its previous seasons with only a 7.77 percent drop in its demo ratings. "Chicago Fire" Season 5 cast news from TVGuide.com also reveals that the show will soon be introducing a new member of the team.

Kamal Angelo Bolden will be joining the "Chicago Fire" Season 5 cast as Kannell, who is described as "a charismatic, magnetic, fun-loving, positive, loyal firefighter." Bolden will be playing a recurring role with potential to become a series regular should the series score a renewal from the network.
