“James Wan is an Australian, and I’ve followed his career since he started. He’s a really good friend of mine," she said. She said that as soon as Wan came to her offering the role of Queen Atlanna, she immediately jumped in. Kidman said that she wanted to have fun in the movie "Aquaman."

Queen Atlanna is depicted in the comics as the Princess of Atlantis who became an outcast. She later met Tom Curry, a lighthouse keeper and fell in love with him. She later gave birth to Arthur Curry, who possess a metahuman capabilities. Some of his ability is to breathe under water and communicate with sea creatures.

As the director, before selected to direct "Aquaman" Wan is well-known as the creator of the horror movie "Saw," which he created with close friend screenwriter Leigh Whannell in 2003. Together they made the movie and after a huge success, he continued to make a horror movie. His most well-known movies after "Saw" are two movies of "Insidious" in 2011 and "The Conjuring" in 2013.
