Dallas Mavericks point guard Rajon Rondo hyperextended his left knee during Saturday's 123-110 loss to the Golden State Warriors.

The injury happened in the third quarter, after Rondo was inadvertently kicked in the left shin by Warriors forward Harrison Barnes whom he fouled on a transition layup. Rondo was seen staying on the ground for several seconds before he limped away to the Mavericks' bench. From there, he soon left for the locker room, where he was examined by the team's medical staff, which found he had hyperextended the knee and ruled him out for the rest of the game.

"I got looked at by the doctor and it wasn't what I thought it was." Rondo told ESPN. ""I just wanted to make sure it wasn't the same [as his previous knee injury]. It's not the worst thing that could have happened, so I'm fine." Rondo tore the ACL in his right knee in January 2013 and missed almost a whole year because of that type of injury. So he immediately feared the worst when his left knee buckled in the third quarter of Saturday's game.

The Mavericks still don't know whether Rondo will miss any further action due to his injury. "We don't think it's serious, but he hyperextended it," coach Rick Carlisle told ESPN. "We'll see how he's doing tomorrow and Monday and go from there."

Rondo was acquired along with Dwight Powell from the Boston Celtics in December in a deal that involved the exchange of Jae Crowder, Jameer Nelson and Brandan Wright. He had already missed six games as a result of nasal and left orbital bone fractures suffered January 31 when he was unintentionally kneed by teammate Richard Jefferson in the face.

As of Tuesday, April 7, Rondo was still not given the green light to join the team in practice, along with Chandler Parsons and Richard Jefferson who are also on the injured list.
